Meeting and Planning for the Ngutukaka project

Updated: Sep 27

🥀🥀This week we embarked on the most inspiring, real and heart-felt journey to the heart of Tairawhiti (East Cape) to meet the amazing people connected with the incredible Tairawhiti Ngutukaka project 🥀🥀 .

We finally made it after years of pandemic and extreme weather events, to hear from the people on the ground who have been educating, growing and planting ngutukākā at kura, marae and along roadsides.

This is just the start of our journey to restore this taonga species to an entire coast that used to bloom red! There is much more to come including a video and a first time, Ngutukākā Festival in 2024. So watch this space – tickets will be limited and in high demand, for some very special #endangeredspecies garden tours, found nowhere else on earth.

😍 Ngā mihi nui ki Trees That Count Bay, Conservation Alliance, Raukūmara Pae Maunga Restoration Project and especially our pou who brought us all together to make this happen Graeme Atkins, Alice Cameron, Stu Muir and Mere Tamanui. Massive thanks to Trust Tairāwhiti and the Sunrise Foundation for supporting this mahi, we cannot do it without you. 🥀🥀🥀
